The Kalamazoo County Health & Community Services Department seeks an Advanced Practice Practitioner (Nurse Practitioner or Physicians Assistant) to serve as the Manager of a newly created School-Based Health Center within Loy Norrix High School in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This position, in addition to a Master Level Social Worker and a Medical Assistant, will comprise the staff that will provide both physical and mental health services to the approximately 1800 students within the Loy Norrix High School.

Funding for this position comes from a long-term, stable revenue source from the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS). Additional funds have been provided to build the newly developed center, which will commence this spring.

Candidates for this position should be comfortable working in an autonomous environment and passionate about working with students to improve their lives and help provide a warm and welcoming medical center environment. The schedule for this position will mostly coincide with school hours and allow for some flexibility.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The purpose of this job is to work autonomously within the scope of practice and credentials in managing health problems and providing health care to clients. Performs assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of clients, including ordering and dispensing medications. Provides primary care services, counseling, and education on health-related matters based on assignment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assesses and documents client medical history and symptoms for staff and students of school or Family Planning/STD clients based on assignment.
• Performs routine, problem-focused, and/or comprehensive physical exams as indicated.
• Orders, performs, and interprets screening and diagnostic tests.
• Diagnoses of various acute and chronic health ailments vary based on assignment.
• Orders and/or administers medications and treatments to clients of the school, including staff and students, or to Family Planning/STD clients based on assignment.
• Counsels and educates clients and families on positive health-promoting lifestyle choices, disease, injury, and illness prevention.

Family Planning/STD Clinic Provider

• Completes invasive medical procedures within the scope of practice and follows established policies and standards.

• Graduate degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing or a related field.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The purpose of this job is to represent citizens in criminal, quasi-criminal, and civil matters by reviewing, enforcing, and litigating the applicable laws. Conducts screening, charging, and handling complex felonies, including capital and homicide cases in the Appellate, Circuit, District, and Family courts. Completes trial preparations, including reviewing and assessing investigative reports and evidence. Reviews charging requests and assigns cases and projects to staff. • Addresses and approves safety accommodations for victims, witnesses, and other community members.
• Responds to case inquiries and legal questions from victims, witnesses, law enforcement, clients, and the public; meets with victims to discuss strengths and weaknesses of a case, potential solutions or pleas, and explains judicial processes for high-visibility or complex cases.
• Advises other assistant prosecutors on legal and tactical strategies.
• Trains junior staff on changes to federal, state, and local laws and regulations to ensure ongoing compliance in prosecutorial procedures.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The purpose of this job is to oversee inmates' custody, safety, and security in the Kalamazoo County Jail. This position works in a 24-hour lockdown facility. Assignments are made any day of the week and on any shift.

• Observe inmate activity to detect unusual or prohibited behavior that might threaten the facility's security or others' safety. 
• Respond quickly to calls for assistance in the jail. 
• Prepare written reports after responding to critical incidents. 
• Accurately count inmates under their supervision several times during each shift. 
• Conduct a thorough search of inmates and jail cells. 
• Monitor inmate feeding, recreational activities, and inmate visits. 
• Correctly deliver prescribed medication to inmates.

Required Education and Experience

Assists in the coordination of emergency services and supports its initial operations, as needed. Provides customer services with airport tenants and community representatives.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The purpose of this job is to issue park permits, collect fees, assist with event preparation, set‐up, and operation, provide information to the public, and perform maintenance duties to ensure admittance to facilities within guidelines and to provide a clean, safe park.      

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Seasonal Park Attendant

• Issue park permits, collect fees, and monitor vehicles for valid permits.
• Assist with event preparation, set‐up, and operation.
• Provide information and assistance to the general public.
• Prepare receipt records, daily deposits, and other records to provide proper accounting of activities.
• Assist in providing clean, well-maintained, and safe facilities by performing janitorial duties, and maintenance work, including operating mowers and driving Parks vehicles.
• Perform related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience

• High school diploma (or GED equivalent)
• Minimum age of 18 years old
• No experience required

Required Licenses or Certifications

• Valid Michigan driver's license

Drug screening and background checks are required.

Thirty positions (30): Variable hours, evenings, weekdays, weekends & holidays. 20-40 hours per week, focusing on customer service in parks and campgrounds, performing light park maintenance duties, and cleaning park facilities.

Seven positions (7): Monday-Friday 8:00 am-4:30 pm, focusing on mowing, trimming and park maintenance.

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under contract with the Airport Authority, to provide armed security to the facilities, grounds, employees, and patrons of the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport in conformance with the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) and the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Secure and open buildings and conduct security inspections of buildings and the perimeter grounds according to airport policies and procedures, FAA and TSA regulations, and procedures.

• Monitor security surveillance equipment; respond to access control alarm points and calls for assistance from TSA or other airport personnel.

• Investigate criminal, suspicious, or other security-related activity reports.

• Arrest persons for criminal activity or active warrants, summoning backup assistance when necessary. Respond to resistance as necessary per policy.

• Prepare written reports, document investigation progress, and perform data entry of other security-related logs and reports. Testify in court.

• Load, maintain, and use lethal and non-lethal weapons.

• Patrol curbside and other areas adjacent to the terminal; issue parking citations and enforce parking regulations.

• Operate emergency vehicles and vehicle equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                 

Required Education and Experience

Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) certified or certifiable required. A bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field is preferred, and an Associate's Degree or two years of military service in an equivalent field is acceptable. Candidate must be 21 years of age and possess a valid Michigan driver's license.

Experience:  Must have effective written and verbal skills, composure during stressful situations, and must be able to communicate at a high degree of effectiveness and understanding. Must be knowledgeable with a computer, including keyboarding, word processing, and database data entry. Must be able to wear and operate respiratory protection devices. Must be able to apply self-defense and other responses to resistance procedures for dealing with hostile or violent persons. Upon hire, must be able to certify as a LEIN user, First Aid, CPR, and AED. Must pass a physical and psychological examination, drug screen, TSA-mandated ten-year fingerprint check, and thorough background investigation.

Any individual with a felony conviction, a pending felony or misdemeanor charge, a domestic violence conviction, or an outstanding warrant is ineligible for consideration for employment.

Eligibility:

• Applicants currently licensed through MCOLES and hired during the eligibility period will receive an initial $5,000 payment after completing their Field Training program. The remaining $5,000 will be paid upon completing their probationary period.

• All newly hired qualified MCOLES Academy candidates hired after January 2023 will receive an immediate $5,000.00 hiring bonus. They will receive another $5,000.00 bonus after they have successfully completed a Police Academy, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff Office Field Training program, and the probationary period.

• All employees employed during 2023 and beyond shall also receive the $5,000.00 hiring bonus after successfully completing the MCOLES Academy and an additional $5,000.00 upon completing the field training program.

• All these candidates will be sponsored by the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office when attending the Police Academy.

Process and Completion:

This process will start on January 02, 2023, and continue until all ARPA-awarded funds are used.

Disqualifiers:

GENERAL SUMMARY

This position performs the law enforcement functions of a Deputy Sheriff for Kalamazoo County. This position provides enforcement of all criminal and traffic laws.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Duties include operating emergency vehicles and, patrolling county areas to enforce traffic laws, and responding to emergencies or other calls for assistance from the dispatcher. Investigate traffic accidents, domestic disturbances, and reports of criminal activity; conduct surveillance/searches and gather evidence.
• Pursue suspects, issue traffic & appearance citations, make probable cause & warrant arrests, and transport suspects in custody.
• Prepare written reports and records, including completing Vehicle Pursuit forms, Use of Force forms, arrest reports, On-the-job Injury reports, and other case-related documentation.
• Testify in case-related court proceedings. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience

Minimum of 30 college credit hours or equivalent military training and experience, with Michigan Corrections Officer Training Council (MCOTC) certification and Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES), certified/certifiable.

Must know law enforcement procedures and techniques. Must have effective written and verbal communication skills, composure during stressful situations, and basic computer skills, including experience with word processing and database data entry.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The purpose of this job is to maintain, troubleshoot, and install various electronic equipment with communication abilities, such as computer networks and phone systems. Performs installation, repairs, testing, and maintenance of networking and telecommunications infrastructure across buildings. Manages access control systems across county buildings. Monitors and maintains video surveillance systems with the ability to navigate software user interfaces to obtain necessary video footage.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs on-site installation, troubleshooting, testing, termination, splicing, repairing, and maintaining telephone and networking infrastructure for county buildings.
• Manages access control system for county buildings, including controllers, card readers, contacts, relays, and parking lot gates.
• Installs, maintains, repairs, configures, and manages video surveillance systems for county buildings, including Network Video Recorders and cameras.
• Manages building automation systems; creates user profiles, roles, and privileges with systems.
• Manages, tests, maintains, and repairs fire alarm systems and fire suppression systems.
• Maintains and tests SecureTech critical incident notification duress system across county buildings.
• Provides technical support and training regarding electronic equipment and software applications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience

• At least two years of relevant college-level course work or an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Systems or a related field
• 3 to 5 years of related work experience troubleshooting low-voltage systems

Required Licenses or Certifications

• Building Management System Manufacturer Certification within 6 months of hire
• Security Access Control Certification within 6 months of hire.

• Interviews dependents and/or survivors to determine eligibility for VA benefits and services.
• Maintains current knowledge regarding changes in regulations and legislation to properly advise Veterans and their dependents regarding benefits and services available.
• Conducts initial interview to determine eligibility for County Emergency Relief Fund and Michigan Veterans Trust Fund; ensures proper documentation is obtained and application and purchase order is completed and submitted.
• Maintains and updates records, case files, and other materials for review and/or referral.
• Participates in community events to inform the public of services rendered, rights, and benefits of Veterans and their dependents; conducts outreach to increase accessibility to underserved populations.
• Advises Veterans, their dependents, and/or survivors in obtaining educational, financial, and social services and other benefits outside of the VA.
• Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Human Services or a related field
• 1 to 3 years of related work experience performing complex customer service tasks
• Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
